We had an opportunity to give event photography a more contemporary, fun and fashionable twist recently when asked to take the photos for Hull University’s 2012 Nursing Graduates. The Ball was held at the Mercure Hotel in Willerby, Hull and saw the successful Graduates and their partners/families turn out resplendent in gowns and suits for the occasion. Although still quite formal affairs, we wanted to bring a sense of a fashion magazine photoshoot to the proceedings and have some fun doing it.
Posing for Event Photos
Shooting tethered (with the camera connected to a laptop computer), I was able to guide the guys ‘n girls, singularly or in groups into what was their most flattering and stylish poses. A few were a bit unsure of this mad photographer guiding them into all sorts of body and head movements to get them looking glam (for the girls) and uber-cool (for the chaps). Any doubts about me persuading everyone to work ‘hard at it’ were soon dispelled though as they got to see their image on the laptop screen and all saw themselves looking a lot different than they’d normally expect for ‘event photography’. Oh, and for the ladies, we made a special effort to ‘”get the shoes!”.

Special thanks to event organisor Denise and Mercure Hotel manager, Jason.
